Psammichnites Torrell, 1870


DESCRIPTION: Straight to curvaceous or looping ribbonlike trails that occur most commonly in convex epirelief. Trails are about 2 to 5 cm wide and have a median dorsal ridge and closely spaced transverse ridges. Psammichnites doesn't branch, but often crosses itself, and some ichnospecies are backfilled.

BEHAVIOR(S): Pasichnia and fodinichnia

ENVIRONMENTAL SETTINGS: Fully marine

POSSIBLE TRACEMAKERS: Gastropods or other subsurface vagile animal with a siphon device

GEOLOGIC RANGE: Cambrian-Carboniferous
